Senior Cost Accountant

The Senior Cost Accountant assists the Director of Accounting in the oversight of the financial operations and financial reporting primarily related to contracts with the Government. This position provides guidance to team members and other departments ensuring compliance with accounting standards and government regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Review job cost ledger activity monthly for government contracts ensuring proper coding, completeness and accuracy.
•Reconcile job cost ledgers to generale ledgers for government contracts, investigate differences and update accounting transactions as needed.
•Develop indirect rates for government contracts for estimating purposes and reconcile estimates to actual on quarterly basis.
•Collaborate with finance and operations on quarterly and annual forecasts and projections for departments dealing with government contracts.
•Assist in completion of incurred costs forms required for government contracts.
•Accurately prepare and post monthly recurring journal entries and adjusting journal entries.
•Prepare and review balance sheet account reconciliations.
•Prepare and review monthly financial reports and analysis for business stakeholders.
•Manage month-end close and ensure adherence to due dates.
•Ensure accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP
•Prepare annual external audit requests and requests from DCAA auditors upon request.
•Assist with ad hoc requests from management.
Education and Experience (required):
•Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
•5 years’ experience in Accounting
•5 years’ experience in Accounting for government contracts (prime contractor or sub-contractor to a prime contractor)
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with intermediate skills in Excel include VLOOKUP and pivot tables.

•Knowledge of FAR
•Must be accurate and detail-oriented, possessing strong organizational, analytical, and problem- solving skills.
•Must possess ability to adapt well to change, prioritize work assignments and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
•Ability to work independently.
•Ability to take direction and responsibility for work as assigned is required.
•Must have the ability to work overtime when required.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (preferred):
•PeopleSoft exposure/knowledge.
•ERP systems for government contractors
•Experience with DCAA
•Experience with DFAR
•Strong research skills.
•Knowledge of CAS
•Multi-entity and multi-lines of business.
